Greetings and salutations!
Welcome to March, everyone. Yeah, it's March!! What is going on with this time travel adventure we call life in paradise? Or is it just me? I feel like it was just Christmas. Haha, I guess time flies when you're having fun, and Maui is always good for that. ;-)
This morning Mr. Groovy Shawn Michael and I served up another delightful recipe for Maui's community and entertainment news, just as we do every Friday morning on KAOI 1110Am/96.7Fm. If you missed it, no worries! Listen here, and check out the "brog" and fliers below. :-)
We started off by talking story with earth angel Kirk Michael Surry of Grow Some Good, a nonprofit program on Maui dedicated to "creating hands-on, outdoor learning experiences that cultivate curiosity about natural life cycles, connect students to their food sources, and inspire better nutrition choices." Kirk and friends are holding "A Sunset Taste of School Gardens," a hearty event this Saturday, March 2, at 5 p.m. at Wailea Hotel. Come celebrate school gardens, while enjoying culinary creations, fine wine, live tunes from Marty Dread and Wailea's exquisite ocean views. (Learn more via http://growsomegood.org/events/.)
We highlighted the recent Maui Weekly, which offers loads of good information in its pages, including small business columns, arts & entertainment pieces and human interest features. Visit www.mauiweekly.com to get in touch with your community, and visit some of features we mentioned today:

Our studio was full of fascinating guests, including our pal Don Lane. His illuminated gallery and mental health awareness tour, "Metamorphosis," is kicking off tonight at Wailuku Coffee Company, and we'll be sharing more on this courageous project over the next two months. Visit https://www.facebook.com/metamorphosis808?ref=ts&fref=ts to learn more.
The cool and classy makeup artist/stylist Ry-n Shimabuku cruised in KAOI Studios early, bringing along his new business partner, Elena Kim. What a doll she is! This fab fashionista co-owns i'Adore, a chic clothing and accessory boutique that began as a mobile venture, and now offers a shopping venue just above Bounty Music in Kahului. Visit Elena and the girls from 11:30-3 p.m. this Sunday, lookout for hours on Mondays and Wednesdays via https://www.facebook.com/iadore.co.
Ry-n is a super nice and talented makeup artist and stylist, and has been working it from Maui to Hollywood. This kid knows what's up when it comes to the latest trends, products and styles. Thank goodness, because Shawn and I are pretty clueless on this front... Haha
(Check out Ry-n's services at http://www.ry-nshimabuku.com/home.)
Elena and Ry-n have formed Klas-ik, a new groove in shopping for cool clothes, one-of-a-kind accessories and more. They are bringing some awesome attire to the island, and it's comfortable, chic and affordable. Pieces are interchangeable, pretty and made from quality fabric that lasts. The fresh duo were sweet enough to gift me some of their stylish tops and the most comfy cardigan ever to wrap around me. Thank you SO much, Ry-n and Elena! I can't wait to sport the new looks around town. :-)
We'll have Elena and R-yn back for a spring fashion special, so stayed tuned!
Miss Lisa Karpf of Manoli's joined the morning cruise, and we giggled a bit about before digging into the goodness of the Wailea pizza company.
Manoli's new bar and lounge is serving up good times and tasty fare on the South Side, opening for lunch every day at 11:30 a.m. With two Happy Hours (3 to 6 pm. and 9 p.m. to midnight), there's always smiles at Manoli's.
Check out this new venture from the renowned Aaron Placourakis at 100 Wailea Ike Drive, or visit www.manolispizzacompany.com.
